In June of 1997, 190 NLP trainers, developers, authors and founders of NLP institutes gathered in Santa Cruz as members of the NLP Community Leadership Project and gazed together into the future in order to:
Participants formed twenty three project groups,
encompassing many areas
that shape all of our lives, including:
Each group produced a vision statement and a plan for implementation that were collected into a booklet comprising over a hundred pages, which will be published and made available to NLP practitioners and institutes throughout the world. This Internet website, which includes information on the NLP Community Leadership Project plans and participants will provide the opportunity for anyone who is interested in creating a part of the future, and the future of NLP.
The spirit of creativity and cooperation, and the unselfish commitment of the NLP Community Leadership Project participants to contribute to the larger community, was truly an inspiration for the future possibilities of NLP.
The success of this initial meeting triggered a great deal of excitement about the possibility of future meetings. It was clear that this first meeting was only the “Dreamer” phase of these projects. Participants eagerly looked forward to longer term follow-up events that would allow the Leadership community to grow, focus, and reach the “Realist” stage of planning and action.
With this in mind, on July 27 - August 10, 2000, NLP University, in conjunction with other NLP organizations and Institutes from around the world, is planning to co-sponsor the NLP Millennium Project. In addition to planning and taking the next steps with respect to the various Community Leadership projects, we would like to sponsor an on-going project to develop Regional Affiliation Guidelines. This project would involve discussions for how NLP Trainers and NLP Institutes could cooperate together to provide more educational opportunities for NLP Trainers and participants and support positive development in the field of NLP.
The type of affiliation we are considering is not intended to be a professional "Association" or "Society" with paid membership. Rather, it is a voluntary affiliation based on shared values and agreed upon guidelines and protocols for putting those values into action. Instead of imposing a hierarchical structure of "standards", "ethics" and "rules", we believe that members of the NLP community do share core values and can reach consensus about interacting with one another and conducting ourselves professionally.
One purpose of the meeting would be to begin a dialogue and share some of the ideas we’ve been thinking about, as a way of elevating the NLP community’s self-esteem and fostering more networking within the NLP Community. Affiliations can enable us work together to reach higher levels of proficiency and comprehensiveness. We can reach larger numbers of people in our regions-together. Perhaps most importantly we want to be satisfy within ourselves, that we’ve made the effort and been able to join together with colleagues, who in council together, can find ways to share good ideas and solve common concerns. Activities under consideration for the NLP International Community Assembly include:
We look forward to seeing all of those who share a positive vision for
the future of NLP in Santa Cruz in August, 2000. Start planning now!
